Begin with expression, not perfection
The strongest source photo is usually the one in which you immediately recognize your companion. A technically perfect image with an unfamiliar expression is less useful than a clear, well-lit photograph that feels true to them.
Check light and focus
Choose natural, even light whenever possible. The eyes, nose, coat pattern and edge of the ears should remain visible when you enlarge the photograph on your phone.
Send alternatives
