Have another clean water bowl available before taking the usual one away. Maintenance should support comfortable access to water throughout the day.
Empty and separate the parts
Discard old water and remove the base or ring if the design permits. Inspect the rim, underside and seams. Residue often remains where two parts meet. Check the material’s care instructions before selecting a dishwasher cycle or cleaning product.
Clean the whole surface
Wash using the permitted method, reaching corners and areas beneath the lip. Rinse as directed so cleaning residue does not remain. Do not treat a quick top-up as cleaning. If disinfection is specifically needed, use a compatible labeled process and keep the dog away until the item is ready for use.
Inspect the station beneath it
Lift the mat and check the floor for dampness, trapped crumbs and damage. Dry the base and surrounding surface before putting the station back together. Ensure the bowl remains stable and does not move into a doorway or other busy route while the dog drinks.
Replace damaged components
Remove bowls with sharp chips, cracks or deep wear that cannot be adequately cleaned. Check removable rings for chewing and loose pieces. Watch the dog drink after changing the arrangement. If drinking behavior changes markedly, seek veterinary advice rather than experimenting with reduced water access to control spills.
