Keep the ramp out of use while it is wet or partly assembled. Provide a safe alternative arrangement so the dog is not encouraged onto an uncertain surface.

Remove debris from the walking surface

Use the method specified for the traction material. Brush away grit that can interfere with grip and inspect for lifting edges or worn patches. Avoid products that leave a slippery coating. Removable covers should be washed and dried according to their own care instructions.

Inspect the supporting structure

Check hinges, locks, feet and attachment points for looseness, corrosion or cracks. Follow approved tightening and replacement instructions. Do not improvise structural repairs or exceed the rated load. A ramp that looks intact on top may still have a damaged support underneath.

Restore the actual route

Place the ramp on the intended stable surfaces and confirm its ends are supported as designed. Check that it cannot shift and that the landing is clear. Reassess the slope and approach if furniture or the vehicle position has changed. Test the empty setup as directed before inviting the dog onto it.

Watch comfort as well as traction

Let the dog approach calmly and avoid pulling it up the ramp. A previously comfortable route may become difficult as mobility changes. Discuss new hesitation, pain or weakness with a veterinarian. Remove the ramp from use if the surface, locking mechanism or supports cannot be restored to a dependable condition.
